Vladimir Chirkin

Biography

Vladimir Valentinovich Chirkin was born on October 12, 1955 in the city of Khasavyurt of the Daghestani ASSR (now – the Republic of Daghestan). Graduated from the Alma-Ata Higher Combined-Arms Command School (1978), the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze (1988) and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (2000).

He served in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany, the Transbaikalian, Moscow, Transcaucasian, Far Eastern, North Caucasian and Siberian Military Districts in various command positions: the commander of reconnaissance platoon of armored regiment, reconnaissance company, battalion. He served as the chief of headquarters / deputy commander of motorized rifle regiment (MRR), the commander of MRR, the chief of headquarters / deputy commander of motorized rifle division, the division commander, the Chief of Staff / Deputy Commander of Army, Commander of Army.

From 2007 – the Deputy Commander of the Moscow Military District.

From December 2008 – the Chief of Staff / First Deputy Commander of the Volga-Urals Military District.

From January 2010 – the Commander of the Siberian Military District.

From July 2010 – the Acting Commander of the Central Military District.

From December 2010 – the Commander of the Central Military District.

The Decree of the RF President of April 26, 2012 appointed him as the Commander-in-Chief of the Army.

Awarded the Orders of Merit for the Fatherland 4-th degree, of Courage, of Military Merit, «For Service to the Motherland in the USSR’s Armed Forces» 3rd degree, many Medals.
