The Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) are an Arm of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the main component of its Strategic Nuclear Forces.

Being a part of the Strategic Nuclear Forces or acting independently the SMF are designed for nuclear deterrence of potential aggression and defeating strategic objects located in one or more strategic air-space directions and forming the basis of military and military-economic potential of the enemy by means of concentrated, group or single nuclear missile attacks.
