Aleksander Galkin
Commander of the Southern Military District, Colonel-GeneralBiography
Aleksandr Viktorovich Galkin was born on March 22, 1958 in the city of Ordzhonikidze of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now the city of Vladikavkaz of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania).
After graduating in 1979 from the Ordzhonikidze Higher Combined-Arms Command School served as the commander of motorized rifle platoon, the commander of motorized rifle company, the chief of headquarters / deputy commander of motorized rifle battalion, the commander of motorized rifle battalion in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany and the Far Eastern Military District.
In 1990 he graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze and served as the deputy commander of motorized rifle regiment (MRR), the commander of MRR, the chief of headquarters / deputy commander of motorized rifle division in the Transcaucasian and the Far Eastern Military Districts.
Upon graduation in 2003 from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces he held the posts of the Deputy Commander of Army, the Chief of Staff / First Deputy Commander of Army. From January 2006 – the Commander of Army in the Siberian Military District (SibMD).
From 2008 – the Deputy Commander of the SibMD, the Chief of Staff / First Deputy Commander of the SibMD.
From January 2010 – the Commander of the North Caucasian Military District.
Since July 2010 – the Acting Commander of the Southern Military District.
The RF Presidential Decree of December 10, 2010 appointed him as the Commander of the Southern Military District.
Awarded the Order for Service to the Motherland in the USSR’s Armed Forces 3rd degree, many Medals.
